BDSM News October 2017

BDSM News New Feature

A new feature here on the site will be a roundup of the most interesting news items that involve BDSM in the previous month. I may also try doing Youtube videos on the subject as a complimentary item, but I’m not 100% sure on that yet. So let me know in the poll below what you think of BDSM News October 2017.

I should also point out that some of these stories come from some less than reputable sources – basically the Fox News type publications. They are the type to try to cash in on the sensationalism of BDSM news, so they run with these stories. I try to find better sources if I can and if not, I will indicate that it’s a poor source.

So without further preamble, let’s get to the news!

BDSM News October 2017

Alt-Right ABDLs?

ABDL Alt-right protest Turning Point USA Kent SateMost likely not, but it is funny to see these right wingers wandering around in diapers in public. I wonder if they understand that there is a whole community devoted to enjoying diapers and other trappings of infancy?

The protest was to protest the idea of safe spaces at Kent University and was organised by Turning Point USA. The group was founded by Breitbart writer Charlie Kirk – which should give you an idea of what they’re about. You may also recognise the name from the Professor Watchlist, which purports to keep tabs on college and university professors who “push left-wing ideas” in the classroom.

If you would like to read more about Turning Point USA, check out the Politifact Punditfact Page on them.

The media, of course, had a good laugh at the grown men in diapers, as did folks on Twitter and other social media platforms. I’m pretty disappointed in all the kink shaming but it does leave one wondering if Kirk is into diapers or just in it for the clicks?

Sex Toy Heist & the Huge Police Search

Fun Toys Sex Toy theft Berlin Sexuality Trade ShowA vendor at a sexuality trade show in Berlin, Germany was robbed for over $60,000 worth of sex toys. Fun Toys London noticed that their merchandise was missing with the brazen thieves stealing a few more boxes when the manager went to let the police into the building to file a report. Police are still looking for those responsible.

Alarming Increase in Male Sex-Related Injuries

There has been an alarming increase in the number of sex-related injuries among middle-aged men. It seems that reported injuries have grown four-fold in the last five years. It’s not always the injuries you would think, like penile fractures, that are driving the numbers up. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of broken wrists, fractured ankles and hernias.

sex injuries shower bdsm

It turns out that the shower is the most dangerous place to get frisky. Slips and falls while trying to get it on in the shower are largely responsible for these more serious injuries. Maxim, of course, has to insinuate that kink is responsible for the increase – and the reason this story came to my attention.

So if you’re inclined to try to have a bit of fun in the shower, please be careful. Maybe put down one of those non-slip mats or something?

Sociologists for the Win

Sociologists are starting to push the idea that BDSM can be classified as a leisure activity, similar to other hobbies that people have. Kinks have long been pathologised, although that has been changing in recent years. We have seen other studies that point to the fact that people involved in BDSM have similar or even lower rates of mental illness than the general population, so this seems like a natural, positive step.

Part of the reasoning is that people who engage in BDSM report many of the same positive outcomes as they do with other leisure activities

bdsm leisure activity sociologists Of the participants, whose ages ranged from 18 to 78, 90 percent said that BDSM gave them a sense of personal freedom, 99 percent said it gave them pleasure and enjoyment, 90 percent said they used personal skills, 90 percent said it was associated with self-expression, 91 percent said it reduced stress, and 97 percent said it involved positive emotions.

This move is both to recognise that BDSM doesn’t always have to involve sex or sexuality, as well as hopefully removing some of the stigmas that being kinky can hold. Whatever the reasoning, anything that shows that we aren’t raging perverts is a win in my book!

50 Shades of Pedophilia

50 shades pedophilia Philippines manilla sex tourism trafficking And finally, a horrific-but-it-could-have-been-worse story from the Philippines.  A 58-year-old yoga instructor from the United States was arrested in Manilla, who police say was planning to reenact “50 Shades of Grey” with underage persons.

Facebook flagged his activity and alerted Homeland Security, who passed the information on to the Anti-trafficking Division of the Manilla Police. The suspect, Robinson Alderman has offences in other countries and is considered to be a “sex tourist”. Three teens, whom Alderman had planned on meeting, were under the care of Manilla Social Welfare.

Yes/No?

Well, that’s the roundup of the BDSM News October 2017. If you like this type of content, let me know by voting in the poll below. Also let me know if you would like to see this in video format, maybe with a bit of commentary or something? I’m still trying to sort out what I want for this feature.
